Busy Brains and Showing Off our Learning! Week Ending:18.5.18

Hello,

 We have been working on special booklets where we get to show off our learning of reading, maths and SPAG. 

 In Maths we have been using empty number lines, jottings and mental strategies to solve subtraction number sentences. Some strategies are best suited for certain number sentences.

 Today Mrs Byrne visited us and she was impressed with our learning and how much we have grown! 

 During creative writing we came up with an alternative ending. In some of our stories Goldilocks and the Three Bears became friends or Goldilocks had an accident and ended up in hospital! 

 This week we have been practising our maypole and country dancing ready for May Day next Friday. Our May King and Queen this year are Austin and Yeukai. 

 Home Learning is to design a poster for the Summer Sizzler. 

 Well done to Ben who is our Star of the Week for listening to instructions and focusing on his learning.

 Tweet will be spending the weekend with Harry as he has been showing great independent learning and takes pride in his neat handwriting.

Fantastic Sharing Assembly! Week Ending: 3.11.17

Hello, Today was 'Glow Day' we wore bright clothes to remind people about being seen in the dark. When you are out at night remember to stay with the adult you are with.  This morning was our fantastic sharing assembly! we impressed all our grown ups and adults with our learning so far this term. We enjoyed showing off our Learning Owl skills with you all- we hope you enjoyed it! During Creative Writing we became fireworks and we wrote a firework diary. We thought about what you would see, hear and smell at a firework display. "I was an orange and blue firework" Erin " I was a rainbow firework" Jack "My firework was gold and it turned into a Catherineen Wheel" Will Star of Week is Clara for always showing kindness to others.   Tweet will be spending the weekend with Charlie for preserving with his learning. What a Busy Week... Week Ending: 10.11.17

Hello,  On Thursday we played basketball and had a go at some dribbling skills. Take a look at the photographs on our Year 2 page.  This week Tweet will be going home with Oliver for his 'have a go' attitude and perseverance with his learning.  Well done to Emily who is Star of the Week for supporting others with their learning.  In English we made our own firework poems and put these all together to make a Chestnut Class poetry book.  In maths we have been learning about empty number lines and we used this strategy to help us take away. When you take away you always start with the biggest number.  This week we have been doing some firework dancing we thought about the shape and patterns that fireworks create.  We cannot wait to watch the Music Assembly this afternoon. Harry, Emily, Ben and Emily will be performing in it.  Miss Hoad has set us a challenge. If we get 19 or more comments on our blog we will earn 2 marbles!  This week we have been wearing poppie

Year 2 Trip to Worburn Safari Park. Week Ending: 26.1.18

Hello, Yesterday we went on a school trip to Woburn Safari Park. "My favourite part was seeing the tigers" Ben "My favourite part was seeing the penguins" Georgina "My favourite part was seeing the squirrel monkeys" Austin "My favourite part was going on the foot safari" Will. Why not leave a comment telling us your favourite part of the trip? Today we wrote a recount about our trip yesterday. We included some expanded noun phrases, time conjunctions and detail about our brilliant trip. Today we welcomed a new member to Chestnut Class called Michael.  Don't forget next Friday is the school disco and NSPCC Number Day. You can come to school in non-uniform and wear a number.
